Lion in Majesty Ring or Moeca
Lion in Majesty Ring, also known as Leon in Moeca. Lion size mm.21 x 20 made in 18 kt yellow or white gold and also in 925 silver or gold plating silver version depicting the famous Venetian winged lion Moeca. History: in Venetian the word moeca has two meanings linked to tradition, it is associated both with the effigy of the winged lion of St. Mark, symbol of the city, which rises from the waters (el leon en moeca), and with the local crab (common riparian crab Carcinus Mediterraneus) in the moulting phase also called fried soft crabs (fried moeche). This delicacy is also called the Venetian nugget. One of the most powerful and fascinating symbols of Venetian history: This emblem, the beating heart of the Republic of Venice, contains within itself strength, spirituality and identity. The Lion of Saint Mark, depicted “in moleca” – a dialect term that recalls the crab – is distinguished by its rounded shape, with its wings gathered like claws and its proud gaze turned forward. Often sculpted sitting on its hind legs, with the book of the Gospel open and its front legs that convey balance and authority, it represents not only a religious symbol, but above all the power and glory of the Serenissima. Each jewel in our lion collection is a tribute to this age-old tradition: small works of art to wear, capable of evoking the Venetian soul in all its magnificence. Wear history. Carry the spirit of Venice with you.
