Ring with carnelian engraved Roman noblewoman’s head

Ring with carnelian engraved Roman noblewoman’s head

Ring with carnelian engraved with Roman noblewoman’s head – 18 kt gold setting – this carnelian stone engraved with a Roman noblewoman’s head has a rather peculiar history, a bit of a whirlwind; we certainly know that it was engraved in 1933 by a talented master of the time, who worked for goldsmiths throughout the Veneto region. The stone was bought by Piero, a goldsmith who had a workshop in Frezzeria in Venice, to make a ring, but by a twist of fate during the setting by one of his boy helpers, the gem jumped off and was lost. It was recovered quite accidentally in 1958, by Esther a cleaner at the back: Esther found the engraved stone resting incredibly on top of a ‘spider’s web’ behind a bench. The carnelian stone was thus returned the same day to the goldsmith Piero, who was completely incredulous at the event, also because it was his wedding anniversary on 14 October… Around 1963, Mr. Piero did not pay heed to superstitious nonsense and made a bargain sale by selling the engraved stone, together with others, to a jewellery dealer; the gemstone remained in a safe until 1996, until the dealer decided to put the stone up for sale, which was then purchased by our workshop. It was not immediately mounted as a ring but was displayed inside a lapis box in our showcase as a stone to be mounted at the customer’s pleasure; in 2005 it finally became the ring you see in the pictures today. The dimensions of the yellow gold ring are 24.5 mm X 19 mm stone thickness 37 mm Price on request – Sometimes we publish jewellery on the site that is only available to order; often photos and details of the jewellery you see are published as a historical reference of our 50 years and more of activity for future orders. We almost always do not publish prices due to the ever-changing costs of precious metals and stones; you can ask us if the jewellery you have seen is available and we will absolutely reply in a short time also for an estimate.
